The Egyptian deserts, as well as the oases, have been forgotten by the Archaeology and History of Pharaonic Egypt. In the last two decades, the interest in the deserts, more particularly in the Western desert, has been generated by several research projects that sought information about the Egyptian Holocene. In 2002, the Cave of the Beasts was discovered in Gilf Kebir. This led to issue various hypotheses, stating that the origin of beliefs, rituals and iconography of Ancient Egypt could be on the discovered scenes. This article examines, analyses and questionsthese approaches, but also the origin of a forgotten culture whose existence was even denied: the Tasian culture
