Proto-Consonantal Hebrew Alphabet

Descripción

The proto-consonantal Hebrew alphabet is the world's oldest alphabet, having been formulated in Egypt between 1859 and 1842 BC by using 22 of the 800+ Middle Egyptian hieroglyphs from the sign list. The unique system used is called acrophony, meaning that the pictographic letter drawn produces the sound associated with the initial consonant in the word that is connected to the pictograph. By the middle of the 15th century BC, inscriptions were being composed by Hebrew herders and miners, demonstrating that writing was brought down to the level of the common person, thanks to this amazing and ingenious writing system.
