White Privilege gives White Social Power

White privilege is a term for social honors that benefits white people. Not because of their social, political or economic situation it is simply because of their skin color. Whites in a societally considered culture receive advantages that non-whites do not experience.
There are many social and racial taught problems still in existence that deal with race, religion, culture, and more. The inequalities are not fair, and that is why laws were made to stop people from treating another person unjustly. Despite the laws, it takes generations for people to change thoroughly and accept others for who and how they are. This problem can only be resolved through awareness and population exercising the knowledge not ignoring it. Hopefully, one day everyone can be excepted for what's inside not based on the color of his or her skin. People are taught their entire life what is or is not socially acceptable. So when people see what they learned was wrong then they most of the time ignore it or keep practicing it instead of changing. It is hard to be taught one social direction then have to change it later in life; this is why it takes the next generations to show the complete social change (Desmond & Emirbayer, 2010).
8. If I want to, I can be pretty sure of finding a publisher for this piece on white privilege.
The two that I chose from the list of ways of white privilege stood out to me and made me realize I was not paying enough attention myself to all types of inequality. Number 8 I always saw that particular types of persons would publish an article on white privilege before anything to do with racism. I suspect publishers would rather publish a privilege rather than cultural issues or just about anything to do with racial complications. I am not saying all publishers it just seems that it would be easier to get white privilege published by almost anyone rather than inequality. I am from a small town that mainly consists of Caucasian older people who are set in their ways against or for racism. Most people do not speak of it, or they go out of their way to not be faced with it. It is sad, but people just act as if though racism does not happen. Therefore they do not have to deal with it especially since it does not happen to them (Desmond & Emirbayer, 2010).
26. I can choose blemish cover or bandages in "flesh" color that more or less match my skin.
Number 26 stood out to me; it shocked me. I never thought about the fact that a color of a bandage could be a problem but in reality it can. Places that have waiters or waitresses that serve food around my geographical location do not wear gloves to serve food unless they have a cut or wound on their hands. However, it looks unsanitary through the transparent glove to have a band-aid next to the food they are serving. If the dressing stands out, then the manager will most of the time send them home to keep the customers from seeing the eyesore. If a person is of any color except flesh tone than the band-aid will stand out, and they, most likely, will have to lose a day of pay. The loss of pay due to the color of a band-aid can have a snowball effect that could lead to the bills being late or cut off. Not to mention the reputation of the person who had a Band-Aid on could be at risk as well. If a customer saw the dressing next to their food than they could complain that the wait staff was not sanitary, and this could even lead to being fired. I wonder if this kind of example has ever crossed the minds of the band-aid companies (Desmond & Emirbayer, 2010).
