Case Study Dyffryn Comprehensive School School council, class reps, Welsh Bacc, Community Voice
Dyffryn School hosted two Digital Democracy Days to teach their class reps digital skills to make their roles more effective. During the sessions 26 young people learned how to operate VocalEyes – and developed their first project online. Before introducing VocalEyes, the school had a well-‐established School Council and a number of class representatives who meet regularly. There was no systematic way of capturing their ideas and meetings tended to focus on their own personal opinions. They wanted to work better as a team. Session 1: Learned how to use VocalEyes by taking on the challenge: ‘What would you like to learn in school that you are currently not learning?’ – highest rated ideas – personal finance/budgeting course; more work experience. Session 2: Set up a project to design the finance course, then responded to the community challenge: ‘Ideas to attract tourism into the Neath Port Talbot area’ highest rated idea – better beach facilities.
