VELIS, NOLIS, INVIDIA: O DESENTENDIMENTO ENTRE LOPE DE VEGA E CERVANTES VELIS, NOLIS, INVIDIA: THE DISPUTE BETWEEN LOPE DE VEGA AND CERVANTES

We dedicate this article to analyze the vital and literary dispute of two of the most relevant names of the Spanish letters, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega. Their divergent opinions about literature’s nature and about life itself were reflected on some of their works, in which they do not doubt to exchange from covered critics to direct discredited mentions. IfCervantes always kept a discreet critical tone, though acid and sharp, Lope didn’t doubt on appealing to insult and discredit when feeling threatened by the author of Don Quijote. From our part, we will try to pierce in their literature to reveal, when possible, some of thesesquabbles, revealing the human dimension of these two enormous geniuses of the Spanish Golden Age
