INTRODUCCIÓN

This work has been developed in order to collect each and every one of the opinions given by the members of the working group number two. The teaching of English provides four basic skills besides grammar, which are listening, speaking, reading and writing. When learning a foreign language should have a good basis in their mother tongue, as part of learning this new language is imitation, when a learner is a baby, you should not emphasize grammar, but when it's adolescent or teenager the grammar is very important in language; A student learns to speak as found in spaces where required to verbally express, dialogues, dramas, expositions, and other activities will help students to communicate. If they want to develop the listen ability , then it is a good idea that through videos, news, radio, internet, attending forums and others that require them to pay attention to native speakers. Reading literature books, periodicals, articles, guides developed by teachers and other vocabulary to make this way then they will use in their productions. Finally, although we know that is difficult is writing, if the student develops exercises puzzles, complete songs, to test, add words to phrases established giving meaning to prayer this will be very useful in learning english.

If a teacher uses different teaching and learning activities in a language as in English, results will be of high quality. You must exit and boring traditional classes; to awaken in the learner's desire to know what is taught.

B. ALL STUDENTS COMMENTS ON STUDENTS SLIDES Esperanza comments: About Patricia’s work (Nov 3th) “Your work is excellent, congratulations. Writing is a visual form of communication, either printed in hard-copy or in electronic form, is considered a productive skill; as you say "a teacher must have patience, dedication and good didactic resources to develop this skill." (Nov 9th) To: Luz Patricia. Thanks for your words, I agree when you says a dictionary always will be a useful tool when it comes to reading. (Nov 9th) To: Tutor Thanks for your suggestion, this link is very good. (Nov 18th) She sent her work again. (Nov 18th) To: Luz Patricia Thank you very much, this article is excellent, thanks for your help.

(Nov 22th) To Tatiana Cuello Hello Tatiana Your job is clear and concise, the grammar has as object of study the components of a language and their combinations, the group of principles, rules and precepts that govern the use of a language in particular, example verbs, nouns, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, interjections, sentences structure. (Nov 22th) To Carolina Duque Hello Carolina I read your work, it is very interesting, congratulations. We must develop the 4 communication skills reading, writing, listening and speaking, to learn another language, I agree with Patricia when she says "communicating is not just talk, also read, write and solve the problems that are presented in their daily lives." Patricia comments: About Esperanza’s work (Nov 8th) your work is very good, I want to give more ideas about reading strategies: For students read with interest is important to know their tastes and preferences, so we can keep books of literature with very good content, attractive, interesting for them during class to read and learn new words, using a dictionary always will be a useful tool when it comes to reading. Bring advertisements or posters to the class with some information will be another very good strategy because they will want to always know what the sign says, create a wall or corner of English is also a good idea, some of our students and teachers may be placed there relevant items to the learners. (Nov 13th) To: Tatiana. when you teach grammar, you must know and memorize many rules and uses of different grammatical tenses, functions in general of the words, the order in the structures of sentences, the correct use of some words and expressions, prepositions, articles , etc. Many people believe that grammar should be taught together, but my experience to prepare for the state exam of grade 11 is to much emphasis on it, I work out of a text first and then I introduce it in a reading, or dialogue, and I have obtained very good results; This year another teacher worked differently and the results are down. What happened ? (Nov 13th) To Yasmín. Within the activities that help improve the skill of listening, we can also work with listening to songs and fill in the blanks, write a song as you listen to the reading of texts and then develop questions about the same whether written or oral skills.

listening cds a book of literature that has been established for the level, and in turn further reading are enriching activities to develop listening skills. (Nov 15th) To: Everyone I share this link with you and a part of this article: http://intranet.global-lt.com/Globetrotter/Fall2013/The-Importance-of-TeachingGrammar-Spanish.html The importance of teaching grammar Cindy A., Coordinator of Instruction

"Not long ago a popular teaching method called Natural Approach discouraged explicitly teaching grammar in the language classroom. Great popularity in the United States in the 1990s, it was believed that students could acquire grammatical rules from context and grammar should be taught only minimally. While this may be true for young children, this approach does not work well for most adolescents and adults who wonder why the language is used in certain ways. Once you have acquired the grammar rules in the native language, students try to learn a new language for comparison: this is done in my language, let's try this construction in the new language. We all know that this strategy works only partially, and can often lead to problems of fossilization of errors, if they are not corrected. The rules of the target language must be learned to understand and be understood. Interesting how that started the trend mentioned above as most teachers will agree with the fact that the teaching of grammar is essential to understand and use language. Students want to know how the new language to make sense works. Our brain looks for patterns and research has proven, then why not show students new language patterns? Show patterns can help reduce frustration and reduce frustration will help maintain motivation. What is the best practice for teaching language structures in your classes? Teaches grammar considering the context. You can use a story or a situation that is relevant to have specific grammar with which you are working, but do not stop using traditional methods like exercises and dictations. Just be sure to use these older methods along with discussions, readings, writing practice, role play, songs, or other examples of actual use. It is important to continually expose students to that part of the language with which you are working, in every way possible. This will make your students are closer to the acquisition. (For example, how many ways you can expose students to present simple? News, articles, emails, novels, songs, video, recipes, etc.)..." I read many articles on this subject, I am very convinced of the teaching of grammar in adolescents and adults, as well as we could read above who already have internalized their mother tongue, people learn a second language by imitating

patterns; surely this theory does not make students do not make mistakes, so practice in the construction of text sentences necessary using what is taught. (Nov 19th) To: Carolina When we teach English in Latin countries or foreigners is very important the grammar, as it will allow us to produce communication correctly, and not only when speaking but also the time of writing, now I mention a really fact, my sister's husband is from Guatemala, he worked in the US for 20 years, and speaks English fluently, but when he had to take the test for citizenship in the United States he could never happen, because he learned nothing of grammar, today he can only communicate orally but not in written form, here in Colombia did some tests to get a job in an international company, but he could not pass the written exam and thus lost the oportunity to work, so communicating is not just talk, also read, write and solve the problems that are presen (Nov 21st) To: Carolina Carolina to read and reread your work, I think most of the students in the place where I work are afraid to talk, some of them do not want to be ridiculed by their classmates and others because they really do not have enough vocabulary and good pronunciation ; in each class there are always some students that do not understand that I talk, they lose interest in the class and are easily distracted, I agree when you say that a strategy to use can be the method based in tasks, because the next day they want to show what they did or understood and participate in the development of the class, this really works. Before starting this semester I taught my class and as at the same time I spoke English I translated them to Spanish, I learned that it is not right that they were previously handled by, now I try to talk to most of the class in English but they are bored because they don't understand what I mean, every day I learn more and I take it to class to improve, we are now in search of the next material book for students, but every book seems really to be good. Carolina Comments: About Patricia’s work (Nov 19th) It is true that writing could be the most difficult skill to learn for ESL students. In this especially true for Hispanic people, the most common error is to translate from Spanish to English, so, sometimes for us is very hard to assimilate a better way of writing. In my opinion, reading books is a great strategy in order to improve our writing skill, because books have more and different vocabulary that we can learn. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! (Nov 19th) To: Esperanza.

I have two important contributions about the reading skill; In the first place, currently in the schools exists a lot materials; This materials help students develop their reading skill, but, even the most important part about learning to read is the intention to read, for example, in the United States, reading is the most important subject in schools, the children love to read, and it continues for the rest of their life. I believe it can work in Colombia, but in our country it is not that important. In the second place, I believe that reading can help students in their intellectual and social life, because students can share with others, and grow in their knowledge about different topics. (Nov 19th) To: Yasmín. From my experience in the United States, for second language learners, I believe that the listening skill is the first skill that students get to learn, because, they can recognize the words with their own sounds, and also, they can learn and know about the new vocabulary. In contrast to that, students can expand this English skill using tools like music and videos with caption. Youtube is a good idea for this. You did a good job! (Nov 19th) To: Tatiana. Inevitably, grammar is the most tedious part to learning English; even some teachers prefer designing materials with good grammar strategies that can replace a boring grammar classes. I know some interesting grammar web pages, where we can improve our grammar, like http://www.ego4u.comin this page you can practice and learn more about grammar. (Nov 22th) To: Patricia Thank you for commenting my task. I know that learn English in not just talk without grammar, if you read my reflection, in this part "The ESL teachers work hard in order to adapt material that can help these students to develop not only their speaking skill, but also other social skills" In that point, I wanted to say that the others English skills also are important, then the grammar could be learn with time!

Tatiana Comments: Yasmín Comments: About Patricia’s work (Nov 3th) You have right. Writing is a very difficult skill to develop, the student must have enough vocabulary, and handle many grammatical concepts.

The materials and activities that you suggest on your work are very suitable for developing writing skills. I think that Crosswords, puzzles, crating short text, and personal poet are proposal very appropriate to achieve the goal of writing. (Nov 13th) To: Luz Patricia You are quite right, writing is a very difficult skill to develop, the student must have a very large vocabulary, and handle many grammatical concepts. The materials and activities that you purpose on your work are very suitable for developing writing skills. (Nov 13th) To: Esperanza. Developing reading skills is very important because the students acquire other skills such as expanding the vocabulary and understanding of grammar rules, the development of reading skill takes students to improve their writing. Materials that you mentioned are very important and these I would add the Internet as a multifunctional and efficient tool in present time. (Nov 22nd) To: Carolina. Thanks by your comments about me work. I think to develop the ability to speak can use the same materials that I recommend to develop listening skills: (Internet, podcast, radio, television, video and CD-ROM; listen For texts of dialogues from native speakers, conferences, speech, video clips, songs, news, weather reports, announcements, interviews, etc.) Observation: Excuse me, but your Featured page looks very bulging. I don’t like it. (Nov 22nd) To: Tatiana. Your presentation has a very nice design to look at, but I think his work does not meet the requirements: The summary, I think it is not good to talk so much of history, it seems more appropriate to speak of recommendations to teach grammar, to say Why is learning grammar positive?, and What methods give better results? You do not explicitly name the materials recommended for developing grammar skills; and finally you did not reflection.
