Social Movements in Central and Eastern Europe A renewal of protests and democracy

The main aim of this research paper is to analyze whether the current trade unionmovement has a capacity to genuinely represent the short- and long-term interests of itsmembership in the privatized companies in Serbia.The paper seeks to explore the capability of the trade union movement in Serbia to utilizeinstitutionalized Social Dialogue in order to avert the impact of negative economical andsocial consequences of the privatization policy upon its members, such as redundancy,decrease of wages, tax burden, worsening of working conditions, etc.In order to underline structural dynamics of changes in the trade union movement duringthe process of privatization of socially owned firms, this research paper examines thetrade unions participation in Social Dialogue in privatized companies in Serbia in areasof information, consultation and collective bargaining.
