Descripción

Sarazm is, up until now, a unique site in Central Asia where a mixture of different cultures dated between ca. 3500 and 2500 BCE and coming from actual Turkmenistan, Baluchistan, NE Iran and the Steppes are found together. Situated in the Zeravshan Valley, 60 kms to the East of Samarkand, it was most probably a trading center for metals and semi-precious stones. This book is the result of the study of all the pottery discovered at Sarazm, from 1977 to 1986. It includes the material from both the Tadjik and the French excavations. A report by N. Avanesova concerning Tugai (Uzbekistan) which underlines the metal activities of this area is added in the Annex.
