Resumen y Objetivos del Seminario Como objetivo general, el Seminario se propone un análisis epistemológico, teórico y metodológico de varias etnografías emblemáticas pertenecientes a la tradición de los Community Studies con el objeto de debatir acerca de su relevancia y su fecundidad heurística para las investigaciones contemporáneas en antropología y sociología urbana, en particular las que tienen que ver con los estudios de ciudades medianas y pequeñas. Los objetivos específicos del curso incluyen:








Analizar a partir de la lectura de monografías emblemáticas los principales aportes teórico-metodológicos de la tradición de los Community Studies, así como las discusiones y críticas a las que las mismas dieron lugar. Recuperar algunos de los debates teórico-metodológicos centrales en ciencias sociales suscitados en el decurso de esta tradición y cuyo posterior eclipse u olvido es frecuente causa de la repetición de puntos de vista y aproximaciones cuestionadas – o incluso superadas – en sociología y antropología. Desmantelar ciertos preconceptos de ‘sentido común’ y derivativos acerca de los Community Studies, sus supuestos teóricos y sus aproximaciones metodológicas, que impiden su recuperación productiva y su reformulación al servicio de una agenda de investigación de antropología y sociología urbanas enriquecida por la prolífica experiencia pasada de estas disciplinas.
