RES 49. Más allá de la racionalidad económica: una nueva aproximación para la comprensión de la emigrante latinoamericana que llega a Santiago de Chile * Beyond Economic Rationality: A New Approach to the Understanding of Female Latin-American Emigrants Arriving in Santiago de Chile

Una explicación "economicista" ha predominado hasta hoy para comprender los flujos migratorios de mujeres latinoamericanas. No obstante, a partir del discurso de las inmigrantes que acoge el Centro Integral de Atención al Migrante en Santiago, este artículo demostrará que existen otras consideraciones significativas que configuran la partida de estas mujeres, justificaciones distintas a las exclusivamente laborales. Desde una mirada cualitativa, se constatará la existencia no sólo de un tipo de emigrante que parte de su origen bajo un proyecto familiar, intentando responder a las necesidades económicas del grupo, sino también una mujer que por medio del viaje buscará escapar de las responsabilidades familiares y sociales atribuidas a su género.Until now, migratory flows of Latin American women have predominantly been explained through an "economic" approach. However, based on testimonies of migrants at the Migrant Integral Care Center (Centro Integral de Atención al Migrante) in Santiago, this article shows other significant considerations that influence the decision to migrate and are not exclusively related to employment. Using a qualitative method, this article will not only describe a foreigner who migrates as part of a family project to satisfy their economic needs, but also a woman who seeks to escape from family and social responsibilities attributed to her gender.
