Real Myths

In both the cinematic spectacle of ‹Fitzcarraldo› and themonumental landscape sculpture ‹Himmelstreppe›, weencounter two events which anticipate the condition of disbeliefas a prerequisite. If doubt inherently implies being oftwo-minds (duplicity, Zweifel) then these endeavors can beviewed as two mirrors, not facing each other but heldslightly askew—each offering a different perspective on thesame object. Both projects achieve a poetic quality—illuminating the circumstances in which myth and reality canbe authentically mediated.
