¿Qué hace un romano como tu en un sitio como este? El problema de la onomástica latina en la Hispania republicana

El panorama historiográfico se ha caracterizado por asumir automáticamente que todo individuo de onomástica latina presente en la Península Ibérica es un ciudadano romano o finge serlo. Para explicar la alta cantidad de hispanos en esta situación en época republicana, los historiadores han optado por soluciones unidas a la inmigración itálica, las concesiones ad honorem, las relaciones clientelares y la imitatio nominum. El empleo de nuevas consideraciones metodológicas a nivel onomástico, jurídico y político-administrativo demuestra la escasa validez de las hipótesis tradicionales. En este sentido, la presencia de colonias latinas en Hispania debe ser puesta en valor al poseer la latinidad, los mecanismos jurídicos necesarios para dar respuesta al problema. El estudio de los habitantes de Carthago Noua desde el 209 a.C. hasta el siglo I d.C., aún en fase de desarrollo, está arrojando indicios favorables en esta dirección.Modern historiography has been characterized by assuming automatically that anyone with a Roman name in the Iberian Peninsula is a Roman citizen or someone who pretends to be one. Scholars have opted for solutions related to the immigration of Italians, granting with citizenship ad honorem, clientelae relantionships and imitatio nominum in order to explain the high number of Hispanii with tria nomina at the early time of the Republic. New methodological notions of onomastic, legal and political-administrative levels show the limited validity of the traditional theories. Therefore, the existence of Latin colonies in Hispania must be enhancing: Latinity provides the legal infrastructures for onomastic transmission and this consequently solves the problem. The study of the inhabitants of Carthago Noua from 300 BC to the 1st century AD, still under development, is generating favorable data in that sense.
