Descripción

The Cliff of the Red Country House in Santa Ursula, North Tenerife, was the subject of archaeological surveys in 1944 by Manuel Garcia Borges and Telesforo Bravo. They uncovered a cave, the Lilies, which highlights, in an Aboriginal context, the presence of a glass paste beads of a necklace. It is not clear whether it was a burial cave or a hoard. In the vicinity, in the land of La Colomba, a nineteenth century tourist facility dedicated to golf since 1896, under the Hotel Taoro of Puerto de la Cruz, they were located in around 70 stones with scratch on the surface, possible rock carving. To confirm their presence, archaeological surveys and sondages were conducted in the summer of 2004. The sondages show that there are little archaeological sediments, -0.25 m, and other than an obsidian flake, no associated archaeological material. The marks on the rock only continue -0.15 m underground. These grooves have between 1.5 and 2.5 cm, with U-section, and some incisions, without presence of picking. Typically follow two main lines, N and NW. No geometric, figurative or alphabetic motifs were identified.KEY WORDS: Canary Islands, Tenerife, Guanches, Rock Carving, Glass paste beads.
