Descripción

The port and the little harbor of Adeje were a set of two adjacent anchorages, which had the water of the ravine of the River. Because they were not ports with exceptional features, surprisingly, one of them was chosen by Majorcan sailors in 1347 to meet a King of Tenerife, presumably of Adexe, which may indicate that he had his residence close. On the beach there was the appearance of a small image of the Virgin of Candelaria, before the conquest, choosing an artificial cave dug in volcanic tuff or a natural shelter as a place of worship of the image in the ravine of the River. The repetition of these elements suggests that the choice of the place of appearance of the image of the Virgin of Candelaria at Güímar was not an exceptional case among peace kingdoms of South Tenerife.KEY WORDS: Tenerife, Chiefdom of Adexe, Guanches, Archaeological Survey, Port of Adeje, Virgin of Candelaria.
