ABSTRACT
The agricultural practices in our country Nepal is ancient type and life of majority of the population based on the agricultural activities .The majority of the farming is sbsistence, mixed type. The agricultural production is not enough and satisfactory.This preliminary survey on current agricultural practices-Samaijee V.D.C1 Pali seeks to determine the current agricultural practices like method of land preparing ,planting and harvesting, Use chemicals( pesticides , Fertilizers ), Their crop pattern. This report also includes their major agricultural risks and problems with farmer's effort to minimize them.
This survey was done on Samaijee V.D.C. Pali in 20 sample farmer family among 404 people 0f 83 families. In the selected families for the study, the survey was done with the help of structured and semi structured questionnaires. The sample data was collected from these families .The objective of this sample survey is to know the overall agricultural practices of this area .Also to know their agricultural knowledge, to find out major problems and give some useful suggestion for the development of right agricultural system. So for fulfill these objective I have collected the data in pali on 10th of November 2015, with the help of friends.
In the data collected of 404 people of 83 families 96% of the families purely are involved in farming, some of the people engaged in government works also. The source of income of 90% of the families was found agriculture and 10% were in other kind's jobs. Among the farmers families 80% of the people have their own agricultural land. In this area about 86% of the people have subsistence mixed type and only 10% of the people have commercial vegetable farming. The main agricultural problem of this area is lack of irrigation. All 100% of the fields are depend on rain water and the tap water. Corn, paddy ,barley and soybeans are the main grain of this area. Potato and tomato are the common kind of vegetable. This is hilly area so tractor cannot be used in fields, most of about 95% of the people use the farm animals and rest 5% use the mussel power to prepare the field.
The agricultural system is not modern so only about 20% of the farmers uses chemicals in their fields. Rest others uses organic or no pesticides in their field. The main cause of this was farmer does not have excess to these chemicals in local level, and they have not knowledge about it. The old fashioned agricultural system can't give enough products for life support to farmers. The drought and other environmental problems are also enemy for farmers. So I did not find them happy with it.
