― was aa moment off traumatic lo oss, a cataclyysmic event which cause ed millions oof people to cross the  boundarries  of  theirr  new  home elands  (Roy  and  Bhatia  2008;  Misrri  2014;  Buttalia  2015).  Its  “long  shadow””  (Butalia  20 015)  did  not only  entail  a  disruptive e  fragmentattion  of  the  fformer  Britissh  Indian  Empire,  but  also  a  historical  catastrophe  w with  enduring  legacies  and  after‐efffects.  In  the  wake  of  ommunities  in  the  India an  subcontinnent  have  used  ethnic  and  a religiouss  differences  for  the  1947,  co construcction of grou up identities  and furtherr small‐scale  partitions  ̶̶    of not less  heinous kind  ̶   have  marked Indian recen nt history.   

D Diaspora  is  a  a necessary  fall‐out  of  ssuch  a  comp plete  mayhem:  alienatioon,  displacem ment  and
