Popoloca split intransitivity revisited

This presentation demonstrates that Popoloca (Popolocan, Otomanguean; Mexico) has three-way split intransitivity in which both agentivity and lexical aspect are relevant. First I classify the non-derived verbs to establish the semantic motivations of split intransitivity, examining the use of the pronominal sets in transitive predicates to confirm the split. Second I show some diachronic changes which have obscured the semantic motivations.
