“Origen y localización de la fortaleza de Xillibar en la sierra de Montellano (Sevilla)”, Estudios de Historia y de Arqueología medievales, 11 (1996), 349-364

Analysis of the etymology of the name of the fortress and village of Xillibar, attested since the 10th century in arabic until present Geribel next to Montellano (Seville). This toponym comes from Latin sillybum (an Hellenism written silebon in a late medical text) with late Latin suffix -ar. The place was therefore an area abundant in thistles at the foot of the ancient town of Callet in the Sierra de Montellano and near the passage of the Guadalete in the way from the Strait of Gibraltar to the Guadalquivir valley.
