Novedades Sobre El Mundo Funerario en El Bajo Aragón (2001-2011)

In the past ten years the question of funerary practices in Lower Aragon has been further complicated by contributions of contextualised data. This study presents the main working lines and hypotheses. We thus recall that for a century our knowledge of the funerary practices and structures in Lower Aragon has been based on the results of the excavations carried out by Institute of Catalan Studies between the Matarraña and Algars river basins. Although that catalogue has been added to over the years with other finds from the region and adjustments to the chronology, the studies carried out to date can only be described as partial. This study presents a series of recent excavations in the area of Alcañiz and the north of Castellón that indicate that the funerary practices of Lower Aragon were in fact more complex than previously thought.
