Descripción

This thesis is a study about the pioneer women doctors in England and the creation of the London School of Medicine for Women (LSMW).If those women, Elizabeth Blackwell, Elizabeth Garrett o Sophia Jex-Blake, had been men, this study would have never been written, because the facts we describe would never have happened. If they had been men, they would have been accepted without problem at the medical schools of Victorian times, they would have been able to carry out their training in any hospital without the multiple restrictions they really met; they would have passed their exams without any of the obstacles they really had to sort out, And nobody would have ever questioned their right to belong to a medical society. In fact, they met all these obstacles and barriers, and that was only due to their condition as women in a patriarchal system. In this study, we do not deal with particular cases, isolated facts, or the peculiar stories of three women; we speak about the injustice imposed for centuries on women because of their sex.
