Descripción

Electron transfer can transform a plethora of pollutants into less dangerous (or even harmless) species. This can often be performed at electrified interfaces (electrodes), be direct or indirect, produce reductions or oxidations, and be used for the treatment of liquids, gases and soils. We have developed a series of laboratory experiments aimed at mimicking some applications of electrochemical techniques for the removal of metal ions, the remediation of hazardous wastes, dye wastewaters, contaminated soils, soil washing solutions, gaseous pollutants, and the electrochemical production of oxidizers-disinfectants. The experiments are performed with readily-available materials and reagents. The power source can typically be a 9-V battery or an inexpensive AC- DC converter.
