Manifestaciones literarias y pictóricas de una misma estética. Un diálogo entre la pintura y la poesía de Egon Schiele (2014)

This article establishes a number of parallelisms betweenthe formal device used by Egon Schiele in his paintingand those distinctive of his writing, in particular, ofhis poems. Specifically by the analysis of his uses ofrepetition and the focusing on details, I compare thevigor of Schiele’s word to the intensity of his pictorialimages. For instance, I understand the reliance onrepeating figures of his pictorial oeuvre in the light ofthe syntactical parallelisms that are typical of his poetry.Furthermore, I show how he manages to make hiscompositions explode by means of the introduction ofunexpected and apparently ornamental details, whichactually function as powerful fragmentary forces. Finally,I relate his unique use of punctuation, often extravagant,to the stained-glass character of his canvases. At thesame time, I focus on the semantic consequences thatthese devices have on his works, and in order to do it Italk in terms of other figures of speech, like antithesis orhyperbole.
