Manchester y Madrid a través de sus respectivos espacio escénicos: Peter Street - Oxford Street y la Gran Vía.

All cities have roads, avenues, streets that are characterized by developing certain characteristics from the activities performed in them. This paper will focus on the relationship between some of these streets and the performing arts.First, it is presented a brief introduction about the importance that this type of streets have in European cities. The development of weight urban reforms since the mid-nineteenth century has resulted in major European cities in the design or reorganization of significant arteries, where old performing arts, such as theatre, have been placed, but also the ones related to the first decades of the XX century, like the cinema.Next, this work carries out a more detailed analysis of two of these spaces: the streets Peter Street and Oxford Street in the city of Manchester and the Gran Vía in Madrid, which are character- ized by being main cultural and leisure focus, where theatres and cinemas have shaped the modern and urban image of these me- tropolis along decades of the twentieth century. The study, besides of pointing out the development and generation of each of these arteries and its urban, economic and social correlation with the performing arts, it makes a comparative view of the two spaces, establishing their differences and similarities. Finally, some sug- gestions are proposed about the viability of these spaces, taking into account the economic and cultural context of the mancunian and Madrid societies of the XXI century.–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––Todas las ciudades poseen vías, avenidas, calles que se caracterizan por desarrollar ciertas cualidades proceden- tes de las actividades que se desempeñan en las mismas. Esta comunicación se centrará en la relación entre algunas de estas calles y las artes escénicas.En primer lugar se presenta una breve introducción acerca de la importancia que este tipo de calles tienen en las ciu- dades europeas. La realización de reformas urbanas de calado desde mediados del XIX se ha traducido en las prin- cipales ciudades europeas en el diseño o remodelación de arterias significativas, en donde han tenido cabida las viejas artes escénicas como el teatro, pero también las propias de las primeras décadas del siglo XX, como es el cine.Este trabajo realiza, a continuación, un análisis más por- menorizado de dos de estos espacios: las calles Peter Street y Oxford Street en la ciudad de Manchester y la Gran Vía en Madrid, que se caracterizan por ser ejes cul- turales y de ocio, donde los teatros y cines han confor- mado la imagen urbana y moderna de dichas metrópolis a lo largo de varias décadas del siglo XX. El estudio además de señalar el desarrollo y la generación de cada una de estas arterias y su vinculación urbana, económica y social con las artes escénicas, realiza una visión comparativa de ambos espacios, estableciendo sus diferencias y similitu- des. Por último, se proponen algunas sugerencias acerca de la viabilidad de estos espacios, teniendo en cuenta el contexto económico y cultural de las sociedades mancu- nianas y madrileñas del siglo XXI.
