Descripción

The ancient maya village ruins Los Cedros, located 13 Kms southeast from Coba in Quintana Roo were the goal of an archaeo-ethnological project. Together with the recently founded vilage Antonio Manuel Hay the team from the Freie Universität Berlin gathered at both the ruins and the new village archaeological and ethnological information about size, structure, plan and occupational phases in order to compare an early classic maya village with a modern village. After two field seasons, the first one interrupted by a hurrican, the project ran out of funds. However a map of both the modern and the ancient village were accomplished. The hurrican damage of huge palm trees enabled the collection of surface pot sherds, which rendered a long period of occupation of the ruins, from the late preclassic to the early postclassic, classified at the INAH Ceramoteca in Merida with the friendly help of Carlos Peraza. The project report was submitted to the Centro Regional de Quintana Roo in Chetumal ( as a manuscript on file also at the INAH Merida available). Thanks to Dr. Peter Schmidt, Elia del Carmen Trejo, Luis Leira,  Enrique Terrones, Tomas Gallareta and the inhabitants of Antonio Manuel Hay  for their friendly advice and cooperation.
