Required Text: The Art of Reasoning, 3rd edition, David Kelley

Course Description: This course is designed to develop critical thinking
skills. Standard areas of logic will be covered, including but not limited
to, classification, definition, informal fallacies, syllogistic logic,
propositional logic, argument structure, and analysis.

Grading: First Exam 20% (100 points)
Second Exam 20% (100 points)
Final Exam 35% (175 points)
Assignments 25% (125 points, 25 points each)

Grade Scale: 93%- 100% (465-500 points) = A
88%- 92% (440-464 points) = A/B
82%-87% (410-439 points) = B
76%-81% (380-409 points) = B/C
70%- 75% (350-379 points) = C
64%- 69% (320-349 points) = D
63% & below (319 or less) = F

Assignments: There will be frequent homework assignments. Not all
assignments will be collected and graded. At five unannounced times during
the semester I will collect the assignments. The grades from these
collected assignments will constitute your assignment grade for the course.
You may work with others on your assignments

Exams: Exams will consist of multiple choice, true/false, short answer and
problem sets. The final exam is cumulative. Exams will be open book. No
other resource may be used other than the course text book.

Attendance Policy: Attendance is not graded. However, it is expected and if
you miss an assignment or exam due to an absence you will only be allowed
to make it up if you were excusably absent. Excusable absences are absence
due to: family emergency, debilitating illness, or participation in
university sanctioned events. I will require documentation verifying your
reasons for being absent.

Academic Honesty and Integrity: The College is an academic community

members. All students are expected to strive for integrity in both academic
and non-academic pursuits. Plagiarism, deception, and fraud violate the
integrity of the student and the College. Academic dishonesty will not be
tolerated in any degree or form.
