L’estructura de la propietat agrària de Castelló de la Plana en 1497

Resum. En Castelló de la Plana la propietat agrària era, a finals del segle XV, una part fonamental dins de l’economia productiva local i la base de la riquesa immoble. En les darreres dècades del segle XV, en un context de contracció demogràfica, la proporció de terra per veí es va veure incrementada, de manera que els propietaris van poder comptar amb explotacions més grans i millor dotades. La major part de veïns podien accedir a la propietat de la terra. No existia una elit de terratinents que monopolitzara la propietat agrària, malgrat que sí existien importants desequilibris interns dins del conjunt de propietaris. Tot i això, la terra es trobava majoritàriament en mans de llauradors. A Castelló predominava la propietat alodial, encara que la major part de propietaris tenien almenys una parcel·la sotmesa a cens. La propietat de ramat, així com la de molins i altres instal·lacions agràries, completaven el patrimoni agrari dels castellonencs.Paraules clau: Història rural. Propietat agrària. In Castelló de la Plana at the end of the 15th Century the land ownership was a fundamental part of the local productive economy and the base of the real estate wealth. In the last decades of the fifteenth century, in a context of shrinking population, the proportion of land for every resident was increased, so that the owners could have larger and better-equipped farms. Almost all the inhabitants could access to the land property. There wasn’t an elite of landowners who monopolized the land ownership, but there were significant internal imbalances between the groupo of owners. Nevertheless, the land was mostly in the hands of peasants. In Castellón the allodial property was predominating, although most owners had at least one plot subject to census. The ownership of cattles, as well as the property of mills and other agricultural facilities, completed the agrarian patrimony of the Castelló inhabitants.Keywords: Rural History. Land ownership.
