Descripción

The ideological renovation of the death ritual due to romanization explains the appearance of the funereal lion in some Hispanic necropolis. The group of lions associated with human heads arrived to Hispania from the north of Italy accompanied by human groups, displaced from their country. Their distribution in the Mediterranean affects discontinuous areas; (Provence, southest Iberia, the province of Jaén, the province of Seville). This theme is also documented in the decoration of silver cups and Iberian painted pottery. The chronology suggested for this theme is between 75 B.C.and the New Era.
