L’endeutament a llarg termini del papa Benet XIII: radiografia dels primers creditors de censals de la Cambra Apostòlica

The long term debt of the collectorate of Aragon began with the issuance of almost one hundred «censals» that were engaged at the request of Pope Benedict XIII to paythe expenses of the Schism. This operation is completely unique, because no other Pope resorted to such a credit instrument, which was so wide spread in the Crown of Aragon.The author examines the initial phase of the process  and reveals the social spectrum of the first investors, according to data collected in some accounting books. He also tries to estimate what effect this issue could have on the Pope’s benefi ts, since their rents were used for paying the annuities.
