The botanical image of the Americas was transmitted to the Iberian Peninsula through a huge quantity of drawings and watercolors generated by European pilgrims and American scientists. Nonetheless, the number of oil paintings that arrived to Spain regarding this theme was significantly inferior. The comparison between them and the images of Spanish specimens, made with a scientific intention, and not merely decorative, shows the different objectives searched for as well as the way to represent them. For it, a comparative study of the different specimen is performed.
