LA PESCA TRANSATLÁNTICA VASCA EN EL UNIVERSO COLONIAL: UN EJEMPLO PARADIGMÁTICO DE INTERACCIÓN MULTICULTURAL

This paper starts with a brief historiographical overview, in which the models for interpreting the Basque fisheries in Canada are analysed critically and a tentative statement is made. The processes of cultural contact – both among the societies that inhabited western Canada and among the different European societies – which occurred on this global and dynamic stage are also considered. Finally, the Basque venture in Canada is assessed in relation to the colonial process.
