Descripción

Pentecostalism is today the most vibrant and rapidly growing religious movement, circling the globe in less than 25 years. No branch of Christianity has grown more rapidly than Pentecostalism, especially in the southern hemisphere. Characterized by speaking in tongues, miracles, television evangelism, and megachurches, it is also known for its small-group meetings, empowerment of individuals and humanitarian concerns. In order to understand the very complex and multidimensional process of “charismatization” in the Christian religion, an interdisciplinary approach is required. It is necessary to understand the origins of the pentecostalization, looking at not only the theological aspects of this global process, but also the sociological influences of its political and humanitarian viewpoints. An in-depth analysis of this phenomenon requires the cognitive contribution of such disciplines of science as the philosophy of religion, anthropology, theory of cognition, ethnography, or ethics.
