La industria textil del centro de México, un proyecto inconcluso de modernización económica (1830 – 1845) The Textile Industry in Central México, an unaccomplished project of economic modernization (1830 – 1845) Resumen: El propósito de este artículo es el de revisar el primer proyecto de industrialización mexicana, impulsado por los gobiernos centralistas durante las décadas de 1830 y 1840, a través del Banco de Avío, cuya principal iniciativa consistió en financiar la primera etapa de la modernización de las fábricas textiles del altiplano central de la república, especialmente las de Puebla, y en fomentar el cultivo nativo del algodón en los litorales de Veracruz, a partir de la promoción de políticas comerciales y fiscales de marcado acento proteccionista. Al final este trabajo brindará herramientas analíticas útiles que servirán para comprender los aciertos, pero también las limitaciones y las tremendas dificultades que surgieron en esas décadas, y que impidieron el éxito de proyecto. Abstract: The purpose of this article looks over the first Mexican industrialist project, inspired by the centralist governments during 1830 and 1840, through the Banco de Avío, whose most important initiative consisted in financing the first stage modernization of the textile manufacture, located in the central highlands of the republic, especially the ones of Puebla, and fomenting the native crops of cotton in the coasts of Veracruz, since the promotion of commercial and fiscal policies with a protectionist accent. At last the work provides useful analytical tools that will serve to comprehend the achievements, but also the limitations and the tremendous difficulties that emerged during those decades which impeded the project's success.
