La impronta del funcionalismo en los estudios lingüísticos del asturiano

Calibrar el alcance de dicha impronta en las diversas vertientes de la lingüística del asturiano (fonología, gramática y lexicología, sin olvidar la perspectiva diacrónica) es el cometido de este artículo. El amplio repaso realizado a la bibliografía revela que la huella de la teoría considerada no es igual de profunda en dichos niveles de análisis; asimismo, muestra que al empleo de la terminología funcional no siempre se ve acompañado de un método merecedor de tal calificativo-----Functional Spanish Linguistics arose at the University of Oviedo under the direction of Emilio Alarcos. It’s not surprising, then, that this theory has influenced the approach to studying the Asturian language –which originally had been bound to historical and comparative methodology. Examining the importance and influence of this vis-à-vis the different levels of Asturian linguistics (phonology, grammar, and lexicology, as well as the diachronic point of view) is our aim in this paper. We did a comprehensive review of the literature which reveals that the influence of Functionalism is not the same at all of these levels; likewise, it also shows that the use of functional terminology is not always synonymous with true functional praxis.
