Descripción

This work aims to display some reflections on the genesis of St. Vicente Ferrer’s image. Theconfiguration of the stereotype of his representation is a response to the imbrications ofheterogeneous elements. One of them is the use of Vicente Ferrer’s image previous to theDominican canonization (1455). If official hagiography is normally considered the departurepoint in the representation of the saints in Late Medieval period, we will analyze how severalpowers of the period used his image, previous to his canonization, for their purposes and soset the basis for the configuration of its later official iconic image, easily identified and notresponding so much to his Vita than to a previous figurative evolution. To this respect, itstands out the symbiosis elaborated through artistic products intended for guiding minoritiesand those the aim of which was to tune with popular devotion, less canonic and oblivious topreconceived values.
