Sturgeon Isinglass/La ictiocola de esturión (texts in Spanish with summaries in English)Sturgeon’s isinglass especially that obtained from its swim bladder is a high-quality adhesive used historically in works of art. Our results showed the characteristics of this animal and the quality and relevance of the sturgeon’s isinglass for its use in the conservation andrestoration processes of cultural property.This book brings together the researches from different universities of Andalusia and the Valencian Institute of Conservation and Restoration, thanks to a grant from the International Campus of Excellence in equity PATRIMONIUN-10 and the collaboration of a specialized fish farm in sturgeon breeding located in Granada (Spain).The research shows the dramatic global situation of this endangered animal. The study presents the history and iconography of the sturgeon in the art, mainly focused in Spain and a review of the use of adhesives of animal origin and of this isinglass in art and restoration.The taxonomy and the biological study of the sturgeon Acipenser naccarii as well as the physicochemical and histological analyses of the swim bladder, skin and cartilage in skeletal tissue samples from the local farm and commercial is presented. It is also studied and analyzed the stability and colorimetry of isinglass' films undergoing accelerated aging and a proposal for species identification by the DNA barcodingtechnique is made.La ictiocola de esturión, especialmente la obtenida de su vejiga natatoria, es un adhesivo de gran calidad que se ha empleado históricamente en obras de arte. Los estudios que se presentan han determinado las características de este adhesivo animal que lo hacenmuy adecuado para procesos de restauración de bienes culturales.Se recogen las investigaciones realizadas en distintas universidades de Andalucía y en el Instituto Valenciano de Conservación y Restauración, gracias a la obtención de una ayuda del CAMPUS DE EXCELENCIA INTERNACIONAL EN PATRIMONIO, PATRIMONIUN-10 y a la colaboración de una piscifactoría de Granada especializada en la cría de esturión.Se presenta la situación del esturión como animal en peligro de extinción, un estudio sobre su historia, iconografía en el arte español y el uso de adhesivos de origen animal y de esta ictiocola en obras de arte y en su restauración. Se recoge el estudio taxológico y biológicodel esturión Acipenser Naccarii y se propone su identificación mediante análisis de ADN. Se presenta el estudio físico-químico e histológico de diversos tejidos de esturión (de piscifactoría y comerciales) y la evaluación de la estabilidad y colorimetría de films deictiocola sometidos a envejecimiento acelerado.
