Descripción

Unlike what had occurred during the First World War, the propagandists in 1940 could operate upon a communications network of great technical sophistication and penetration, particularly in the field of radio.  With these tools in hand it became possible to move wills and to mould public opinion in those countries of special geographic or political importance to the belligerents such as Mexico.Radio was undoubtedly the most important means of information in the Second World War.  It was able to overcome geographical barriers as well as the lack of rapid transportation which stymied the distribution of print media.  The most remote corners of the Mexican sierras could tune into station XEW and other stations from Mexico City.  At the time (1940) there were over three hundred thousand receivers in the country,  Radio had become the ideal vehicle for fast, cheap and systematic mass persuasion over a poorly educated populace that relied on its feelings more than its thoughts. This books provides a comprehensive overview of the Mexican radio broadcasting industry during the war, and the activities undertaken by foreign propagandists to influence the public opinion in Mexico and Latin America.
