Descripción

Herein the facts contributed by the most recent studies on the non standardized varieties of latin are compared with the language of the latin graffiti discovered in the archaeological digs of 2005 and 2006 in the Roman oppidum of Iruña-Veleia, Alava (Spain). This is a language which is congruent with those non standardized varieties from a linguistic and chronological standpoint. Moreover, this discovery brings forward interesting information -and documentation- on spoken languages in the north of Hispania, as well as about the  declension of Latin in the second half of the 3rd century AD.
