In 1847, José María Ybarra Gutiérrez founded the first company of the Ybarra family in Seville. Fifty years later, after two generational changes and several other enterprises, Hijos de Ybarra was born. This new company implemented a double strategy: verticalisation plus internationalisation. Verticalisation was to be achieved through the integration of olive cultivation with olive grinding and the fabrication, commercialisation and export of refined oil in the company's ships. Internationalisation was based on the increasing exports that transformed Ybarra Company into one of the most important export firms, both inside Spain and internationally, to the point that, in accordance with the model of the school of Uppsala, it even opened a subsidiary outside Spain. The firm - Hijos de Ybarra- was created as a global born-again, in line with Kontinen and Ojala's concept of companies internationalised since birth. Furthermore, these new strategies relied, as advanced by Colli, García-Canal and Guillén on the family's unity, which remained strong despite the generational changes and the incorporation of the third generation to the management of the firm
