Descripción

In The Concept of Anxiety, Vigilius Haufniensis discusses the issue of sexual difference as it follows from the positing of sin in the world, and in The Sickness Unto Death, Anti-Climacus defines the human self, and writes of " masculine " and " feminine " forms of despair. The paper discusses Kierkegaard's conception of sexual difference in these works and secondary literature on the topic, with particular attention to the question of whether male and female humans can be considered equals in Kierkegaard's conception(s). This equality is perhaps possible due to Kierkegaard's arguing for an indifference to the sexual difference at the religious level in both works.
