José Ramón Mélida y la egiptología en España (1875-1925)

Summary: José Ramón Mélida is the most important archaeologist in the period between 1875 and 1925. Being a heir of the former antiquarian tradition, he knew how to conform the old Archaeology to the Positive and Scientific Principles. He had a French influence in his education, because of his research training.  He carried out an intense work as egiptologist until 1900, before the impossibility to see created a chair of Egyptology in the University.Resumen: José Ramón Mélida puede considerarse como el arqueólogo español más representativo del medio siglo que transcurre entre 1875 y 1925. Heredero de la tradición anticuaria precedente, Mélida supo imprimirle a la Arqueología nuevos aires en sintonía con los principios positivistas y científicos. Llevó a cabo una intensa labor egiptológica hasta 1900, ante la imposibilidad de ver creada una cátedra de Egiptología en la Universidad.
