Descripción

In the state of Guerrero (the fifth producer of gold and the eleventh of silver) since some years ago criminal organizations have interest in the production chain of the mining industry. The presence of criminal organizations in the mining companies has caused that both property, that rent their land for the extraction of minerals and receive monetary compensation, and workers lived in a context of violence and fear to be blackmailed, kidnapped or killed. After the disappearance of 43 students by the Normal Rural School Raúl Isidro Burgos in Ayotzinapa, have been done investigations that indicate the increase of violence in Guerrero in function of the battle for territory that involves the heroin trades routes and the extraction of minerals. These same routes match with the sites where has increased the presence of large companies in extractive activities. It is the case of the municipality of Eduardo Neri, where Goldcorp owns two producing mines of gold during the last years which have become one of the more productive assets of this mining in the world. Unfortunately the economic growth of Goldcorp agrees with the upsurge of violence in the state of Guerrero. The reflection that is made here in synthetic form, analyzes the context of Guerrero’s territory menaced both by criminal organizations and large mining companies that, like in other places of Mexico, is putting at risk the balance of community life and the territory.
