Sustainability The pressures of development are seen in all aspects of resource and environment management today. In order to cope with the various issues it is necessary to explore methods and technologies that not just result in advancement of society, but also make such advancement sustainable. The IGCS was established 2010 in IITM by decision of the two governments with a view to carry out fundamental and applied interdisciplinary collaborative research between IITM and German universities, teaching and training and dissemination of information in the area of sustainable development. The IGCS wishes to be one of the premier centres of excellence in the field of engineering and environmental sciences. Mobility funds are provided by German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Research is supported by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Research is also supported by Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen, Germany, in the area of sustainable power engineering. Call for papers and participation

Topics: The focus areas of the centre are sustainable technologies for water management, energy management, waste management and land use. This conference proposes to bring together researchers in academia and industry, and policy makers in India and Germany to exchange research findings, discuss and deliberate on these issues, and identify future course of action towards sustainability. The organisers invite research papers and poster presentations in the focus areas and personal participation in the conference. Who will benefit? It is expected that faculty and researchers of various educational and research institutions, technical and managerial personnel from industry, policy makers from government organisations and NGOs, and private technology and consulting firms, watch groups could benefit from participation. Paper Submissions: The conference organisers invite paper contributions from India and Germany in all the above listed areas. The submissions must be in the form of PDF documents formatted as extended abstract of the work in a maximum of 600 words (including tables and figures). Contributions may be selected for presentation in the conference either in a presentation mode or paper mode, depending on slotting possibilities. Apart from this, submissions only for poster presentations by research scholars are also encouraged. Details about the format of the extended abstract manuscript and the final manuscript are available on the website of the conference www.iitm.ac.in / www.igcs-chennai.org Proceedings: All accepted papers must be presented for inclusion in the proceedings. The proceedings of the conference will be made available to the participants for download from the conference website by 15 Dec 2015. Registration Fee: The registration fee for the conference is: Rs. 2000/-. For students 50% discount is available. The fee includes a conference kit, lunch and snacks. The authors of accepted papers have to bear their own travel and accommodation expenditure. However, to support overseas travel, for authors from Germany, a limited number of travel grants are available. About Chennai: Chennai in South India is a well known travel destination and is the capital of the state of Tamilnadu. The state is known for its rich tradition, temples and culture. December is a month which is very special for cultural activities and the famed music and dance festival is expected to be in full swing in the city during the time of the conference.
