Descripción

The social development policy in Mexico City, adhering to the Principle of Universality established in the Ley de Desarrollo Social para el Distrito Federal (Law of Social Development for the Federal District), requires of sustained technical and territorial elements that allow its suitable implementation. Households demanding greater support based on their needs about housing, education, health and social security, sanitation, energy and durable goods must be territorially identified to focus programs and actions of the Mexico City Government. The Mexico City Social Development Index is obtained by the method of unmet needs and, by weighing the needs of the population, can identify at block, colony and delegation level the development status of the population that resides therein. Data available for 2005, 2010 and 2015 allow tracking the intertemporal progress at aggregate level or for each component of the index. Additionally, by mapping the results, specific needs may by identified according to the level of disaggregation chosen. The latest index values (2015) show an increase, at aggregate level, of social development in Mexico City. However, some dimensions may be added in order to improve the Index.
