Imperialismo italiano en América Latina. La empresa Martini y el carbón de Venezuela

ENGLISH In the present article is presented a reflection through a qualitative-descriptive methodology on the attempt to Italy to participate, between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, in the exploitation of resources in Latin America. In 1898 the mining company Martini, strongly supported by the government, obtained a concession for the exploitation of some coal mines in Venezuela. However the insufficient international weight of Italy and the frequent revolutions which, partly thanks to the interest of the foreign companies, took place in Venezuela didn't work in its favour. The company lost soon its rights and incurred serious financial losses. The question gave rise to a long diplomatic quarrel, which ended only in 1930, with a clear defeat for Italy.SPANISH En el presente artículo de investigación se presenta una reflexion a partir de una metodología cualitativo-descriptiva sobre el intento de Italia de participar, entre los siglos xIx y xx, en la explotación de los recursos de América Latina. En 1898, le empresa minera Martini, apoyada por el mis-mo Gobierno, obtuvo la concesión para explotar algunas minas de carbón en Venezuela. Sin embargo, la escasa importancia internacional de Italia y las frecuentes revoluciones que, por culpa también de las compañías extranjeras, ocurrieron en Venezuela no la ayudaron. Muy pronto la em-presa perdió sus derechos y sufrió una gran pérdida financiera. Esto llevó a una larga contienda diplomática, que solo se concluyó en 1930, con una patente derrota de Italia.
