Descripción

This article reflects on possibilities the feminine subject has to pass into the public space, as seen on Ariel Dorfman’s work “Death and the Maiden”. The space is examined as a social construction responding to cultural conditionings that discipline bodies into certain territories. This becomes quite evident on the speech of characters and its strategies in order to avoid another’s project. The historical context in which the work is articulated, is determined by structural violence. Moreover, we dialogue with Hegel’s image of Antigone and how it helps to conceptualize the difference between men and women. So this analysis tries to link the main character with the other, as well with the social structure, since they all - being ruling systems- trigger conflicting knots causing inequality. Finally, the following paper pursuits to prove the way how a feminine subject installs itself retreated into the private space in its sense of lack and its (im)possibility to transit to the realms of politics.Key words: gender, body, private space, public space, violence.
