Through an ideal structure of binary oppositions, we willseparate those levels in works of art that —we can pretend—have given continuity to the utopian and cognitive intentionsof the avant-garde. That is, the compromise in the criticalinterpretation of reality, oriented towards a free andpublic rationality, and the reduction of violence in the ideologicalstructures. We will distinguish these levels fromthose that are orientated to its adaptation to the culture industryand the affirmation of a status quo —in which asymmetricalrelations of domination are sustained and the “idealspeech community” disappears from the human horizon.We will pretend that these pairs would be clearly opposed inreality, only in order to agree on how we could define an advancedand authentic art, distinguishing it from that whichcould be light or false.
