Descripción

The last stage of fray Luis de León’s life (1527-1591) carries with it a woman’s  name. The renowned professor at the University of Salamanca, theologian and poet by vocation, accepts the task of editing the works of Madre Teresa de Jesús (1515-1582). Although he never met in person the saint of Avila, since November of the year 1586 he delved into her life, work and spirituality through «her daughters and her books». Attracted by the Teresian spirit, he discovers and officially presents, through a letter in the form of a prologue,  the doctrinal, literary and spiritual merits of St. Therese of Jesus. With his help, the Teresian works are presented to the scholars and critics of Europe.  His contribution was a turning point in the biographical literature, mainly for having combined her personality with the strength of spirit, her internal struggles, weaknesses and imperfections with her passion for holiness and for Christ.
