Jaime Torres Bodet (1902-1974) is considered of the most important intellectuals in Mexico in the XXth century. Additionally, he was an important statesman serving as a diplomat and secretary of Public Education. He was a poet, essay and novel writer. The influence of French literature in his career was strong. It determined his early writings from the age of sixteen years old until 1929.
