Francesco Robortello, philologist, Hellenist, antiquarian and admirer of Angelo Politian, may be regarded as one of the first mid-Sixteenth Century theorists of history that defended the discipline as a valid mode of cognition from the initial attacks of skepticism, when Sextus Empiricus’ works still had a reduced circulation. His defense, condensed in a small treatise (of only twenty pages), is based on a course on Humanities that he taught between the Pisan Studio and the Florentine Academy.
