Descripción

During the Iberian Iron Age (roughly 5th to 1st centuries BC),  the geographical distribution of certain types of luxury products (such as swords  richly decorated with silver inlay), the close similarities of layout  and detail in the decorative motifs and patterns in these objects, the existence of burials such as the ‘goldsmith’s tomb’ at Cabezo Lucero in Alicante, and what we know about the structure of Iberian society, are all elements that allow us to suggest that there were in existence certain itinerant craftsmen specialized in silver inlay or in other aspects of the  metallurgical craft. This is not to deny that other production systems existed, such as  local smithies in towns and villages and -perhaps- bigger workshops in cities.
